According to a medical article published by American Heart Association, Aneurysm can happen when an artery wall weakens which leads to its abnormal enlargement.

Unlike to the usual thinking of many that it can only happen in the brain (Cerebral Aneurysm), in reality it can occur at any part of the body.

However the most common cases occur in the artery of the heart (Aortic Aneurysm), led behind the knee (Popliteal Artery Aneurysm), in intestine (Mesenteric artery aneurysm) and artery in spleen (Splenic Artery Aneurysm).

The cause of Aneurysm most of the time is unknown but it can be congenital, a baby can be born with it and the risk is increased if there is a history in the family.

Other factors that can increase the risk are high blood pressure, high cholesterol and smoking.

Aneurysm also does not choose any age or gender, though women are more prone to this and the risk increases as a person gets older according to an article of National Health Service in UK.

Commonly, Aneurysm has no visible symptoms but it can develop over the years and those cases which occur near the surface of the skin may be painful and include swelling with a visible throbbing mass.

If it expands and raptures these symptoms can be felt: Pain, clammy skin, dizziness, nausea and vomiting, rapid heart rate, shock, low blood pressure.

To lower the risk of having Aneurysm one must control high blood pressure, eat healthy foods, get regular physical activities, manage stress and quit smoking.
