Bob Bernstein, an advertising executive based in Kansas City, introduced the McDonald’s Happy Meal and it was rolled out nationally in 1979.

His idea came from the routine he noticed from his 10-year-old son Steve who would pour himself a bowl of cereal and then sit at the table staring at the cereal box. The kid would repeatedly read the box cover from the front, back, to the side.
