Talking about the history of Mother’s Day, Julia Ward Howe also played a vital part. She was a abolitionist, feminist, and suffragette who wrote the lyrics for “Battle Hymn of the Republic”.

Howe also penned the Mother’s Day Proclamation that aimed to bond together the mothers to promote peace. She created the Mother’s Peace Day and about the same time, Ann Jarvis Mothers’ Friendship Day.

At the time, mothers would meet former soldiers from the Union and the Confederacy. Those women encouraged the soldiers for reconciliation.
