The once well-loved celebration for Anna Jarvis became a difficult time. It was said that she felt that the holiday that was intended to honor the mothers was hijacked. It is because of the coming of greeting cards, candy, and flower industries.

This was not her original concept of Mother’s Day. “If the American people are not willing to protect Mother’s Day from the hordes of money schemers that would overwhelm it with their schemes, then we shall cease having a Mother’s Day—and we know how,” she said as she organized boycotts and protests.
