Statue Of Liberty: Knowing The History Of The Iconic Monument

French political intellectual and anti-slavery activist named Edouard de Laboulaye proposed in 1865 that a monument that symbolizes liberty will be built in the U.S., based o the article in the National Park Service.

French sculptor Auguste Bartholdi designed the statue of “Liberty Enlightening the World” as he supported the aim of Laboulaye to create a symbol of the centennial of the independence of the U.S. and to celebrate its friendship with France.
