Based on the article from the National Geographic, Stan was sold for $31.8 million. This is considered the highest price for fossil so far. In 1997, “Sue,” a largely complete T. rex was sold for $8.36 million (equivalent to nearly $13.5 million today) to the Field Museum of Natural History in Chicago.

Sue was also dug up by the same institute in South Dakota.
