The oldest library in the world was founded by a woman – Fatima al-Fihri. She is a daughter of a wealthy merchant from Tunisia’s Kairouan, who arrived in Fez and started laying the groundwork for a complex that would include the library, the mosque, and the Qarawiyyin University.
