Elsie Bowerman

She was one of the Titanic survivors who was a fascinating woman also in Lifeboat 6, aside from Molly Brown. Elsie, who became a nurse in World War I, was an advocate of women’s suffrage.

After the women in England were given the right to vote in 1918, she was allowed to study law and became the first barrister to practice at the prestigious London Courthouse the Old Bailey.

Elsie also served in the Women’s Royal Volunteer Service in World War II. She was one of the women who handed help in organizing the United Nations’ Commission on the Status of Women. Elsie died in 1973 at age 83.
