Christa McAuliffe

Out of 11,000 teachers, McAuliffe was chosen to be the first teacher on a space mission. Unfortunately, 73 seconds after the launch on January 28, 1986, Challenger exploded killing McAuliffe and other six astronauts.

That mission was intended McAuliffe to film lessons in space that will be shown in school. This intention was fulfilled in 2018 by teachers-turned-astronauts Joe Acaba and Ricky Arnold.
