At the age of 21, Dangote graduated from Egypt’s Al-Azhar University in 1977 and that was the time when he borrowed $3,000 from his uncle. He used this to import and sell agricultural commodities in his home country, Nigeria.

The two major imports that Dangote engaged to were rice from Thailand and sugar from Brazil. He said an interview that he was able to daily net profit of $10,000.
