Several scenes in Crash Landing On You showed emotional outburst from the characters. However, it was said that North Koreans are afraid to cry and whisper with the belief that the Supreme Leader can hear them.

Yeonmi Park who is a defector said that at a young age she was warned by her mother to whisper and when her father died in China when she was 14 years old, she buried him secretly at 3 a.m. and it she could not cry with the fear that she might me brought back to North Korea.
