Isaac Fawkes was a popular showman in the early 1700s. He was known as The Sleight of Hand Man. During Fawkes’s time, he was criticized by painter William Hogarth who would always mock his show. Hogarth would also scorn Fawkes’s audience’s taste for a stage “debauch’d by fool’ries.”
