They are most common in the eucalyptus forests of eastern Australia. Koalas enjoy eating eucalyptus leave and they can consume 1 kilogram or 2.2 pounds in a day. This mammal is not fond of drinking water because the water supply they need comes from the leaves they eat. When scarcity of food happens, they would go to streams and lakes to drink water. Eucalyptus is poisonous to many animals but a koala has a digestive system that creates bacteria that renders the poison useless.
