Under Harry S. Truman’s presidency, it underwent complete overhaul after engineers discovered that it is “structurally unsound and unsafe for habitation”.

George Washington was not the first president who lived in the White House despite he chose the location and the architecture. It was President John Adams who first live here in 1800. From that, it has become the official residence of the U.S. president and his family.
