Daylight saving time was first advocated by an entomologist who wanted more sunlit hours to look for insects after work in the summer and he proposed his idea to the scientific society in New Zealand in 1895. This was officially implemented in 1916 in Germany with the intention of conserving coal during World War I. In 1918, the United States followed this system. This was ended in October 2007.
