Freddie Mercury: Did you know Queen’s vocalist was born in Tanzania?
In 1963, Freddie Mercury went back to Zanzibar. That was the year the country gained independence from Britain. Then, Freddie finished his last years of education at the Roman Catholic St Joseph’s Convent School.
However, in 1964, a revolution happened when the Arab elite ruling the country was thrown. The family of Freddie was among the people who fled Zanzibar that became a semi-autonomous region of Tanzania.
