Literate people who know the English language can easily identify and enumerate all the letters in the alphabet but did you know that there were letters that were eliminated?

Here are the 10 letters that did not make it to the official English alphabet, based on the article in Mental Floss.

THORN

This is derived from the Old English runic alphabet, Futhorc. Over time, this was replaced by “TH”.  Gothic-style scripting made the “Y” and “thorn” look identical and since Continental printing presses didn’t have “thorn“, Y became the common replacement.
