Bandai sold 5 million Tamagotchi in Japan and this just happened within six months. It was a huge success also in the U.S. On its first day, May 1, 1997, San Francisco’s F.A.O. Schwartz sold its entire stock of 3,000 by 3:00 p.m, and by the next day, the store sold its initial 10,000 Tamagotchi.
