Thermometer: The Strange Story Of How This Scientific Device Was Invented

While he was wandering through Germany, Denmark, and Sweden, he came across Rømer’s in Amsterdam, and collaboration happened. He discovered that the solution of equal parts water and ice froze at 32 degrees. On the Fahrenheit scale, it is known as the “freezing point”.

With the worldwide adoption of the metric scale, it was Swedish astronomer Anders Celsius who invented the system that is widely used now in thermometers. However, on his scale, 100 degrees was the freezing point. It was French scientist, mathematician, astronomer musician Jean-Pierre Christin who developed it and made 100 degrees as the boiling point.
