This sweet treat is a chocolate-covered nut roll and was introduced during the Great Depression as a reference to Herbert Hoover’s presidential campaign promise which stated, “a chicken in every pot and a car in every garage.” The production of this was ceased in 1962 when Pearson’s acquired the Sperry Candy Company.
