Ice Cream History: How This Cold & Sweet Treat Started
In 1671, ice cream was served at a banquet for the Feast of St. George at Windsor Castle. At that time, it was a rare commodity and so guests on King Charles II’s table were given just “one plate of white strawberries and one plate of iced cream.”
However, other guests did not receive the cold and sweet treat and so they just marveled. Because of that, wealthy people built ice houses on their estates.
