Dunaliella salina actually belongs to the green algae family but it is stuffed full of carotenoids which is the pigment that gives many orange and red fruits and vegetables their color. In this algae, the carotenoids are red. Archaea, a bacteria and prokaryotic organism, is also floating on the salt flats, which has a pigment called rhodopsin that also appears red.
