Yokoi was the president of Wiz Co., Ltd., a creative firm that designed and pitched toy concepts to larger companies. He contacted Aki Maita, who worked on marketing at Bandai, a well-established toy company in Japan. However, Bandai was having a hard time penetrating the market in America. Fortunately, Bandai’s Mighty Morphin Power Rangers toys became a big hit at the North American International Toy Fair, a major trade show held annually in New York since 1903.
