White House: Facts about U.S. presidents residence you may not know yet

Based on the article published in History, the construction started in 1792 and took eight years to complete. It is designed by James Hoban, an Irish immigrant and architect who was hand-picked by President George Washington.

Hoban led the effort to rebuild the the building after the burned it in 1814 during the War of 1812.
