Diana Trujillo

She is one of the faces of the Perseverance mission that landed on Mars in February 2021. Trujillo was born and raised in Colombia. At 17, she moved to the United States without the knowledge of the English language and with just $300 in her pocket.

Her job as a domestic worker helped her raised money for her English class and eventually went to college for space science and aerospace engineering, based on the article in Reader’s Digest.

The director of the Mars 2020 mission is the first Latina woman who entered the NASA Academy.
