Tabitha Babbitt, a weaver, reportedly suggested to lumber workers that they should use a circular saw instead of the two-man whipsaw. The prototype she created was attached to her spinning wheel in 1813. People in Babbitt’s community did not approve of filing a patent but they eventually benefitted from the invention.
