This became a business in 1917 when Louis Bernard Woeste applied for a patent for a ball that he called “myriad reflector”. The selling of this was spearheaded by his company Stephens and Woeste with the promise to customers that it will bring “dancing fireflies of a thousand hues” to the dance halls.
