Handshake

This hand gesture is being used for thousands of years now. Reportedly, the oldest record of handshake done was in an art from 9th century B.C. One or two centuries after that, it was mentioned in Homer’s The Odyssey.

There are two theories why this gesture was created. First, to show that one is empty or without a weapon and the shaking motion might reveal weapons hidden inside the sleeves. Another theory is that it symbolizes good faith and a sacred bond as two hands clasped.

Nowadays, this gesture is done to greet someone, to close a deal or making amends.
