At first, Tolkien wanted to focus on Bingo Baggins, who later on became Frodo, the son of The Hobbit protagonist Bilbo Baggins. It is because he knew that people will be wanting more Hobbits. The writer also included a hobbit name Trotter who later on evolved into Aragorn. In earlier drafts, Samwise Gamgee was not included but there was Odo who is most likely to be Pippin.
